Bargain Breaks For St. Patrick's Day

By Emily Collins

St. Patrick's day;a date that honours the patron saint of Ireland, or for many of us the one day of the year when we drink Guinness in leprechaun hats. The date is viewed as a great excuse for a party by Irish and non-Irish folk alike.

Many will undoubtedly flock to Dublin where there is a long weekend festival consisting of music and street performances, the best of Irish comedy, walking tours, parades and of course the opportunity to visit the Guinness factory and enjoy a panoramic view of the city awash with green.

Alternatively Mytravel.com offers flights and accommodation in a number of destinations where you will find the cost of revelling to be a lot cheaper. Moscow is one such example and the Russian city has strangely been celebrating St. Patrick's Day since 1992 with a parade that is steadily increasing in size. Expect to see Cossack horsemen and marching bands.

The Amsterdam Gaelic Athletic Club is hosting an Invitational Tournament this St. Patrick's Day weekend. Teams from the UK and Ireland are both invited, so if you travel to Amsterdam for St. Paddy's you're bound to find great craic and the opportunity to watch traditional Gaelic sport, such as hurling, being played.

Hungary is famous for offering pretty scenery and cheap beer, which makes it ideal for St. Patrick's day festivities. Luckily MyTravel.com has a great variety of hotels in the capital city, Budapest. The Hungarian capital is hosting an excellent St. Patrick's Day festival which takes place over four days. Events include a parade, gala dinner, Irish film festival, face-painters, musicians and dancers. The city's famous baths are ideal for appeasing the hangover if you find that you've sunk one too many pints of the black stuff.

Wherever you find yourself in the world this March 17th be prepared to party Irish style, after all everyone's Irish on St. Patrick's day!
