What One Should Know About Scuba Diving Cozumel

By Edna Booker

Scuba diving is one of the recreational sports that are most enjoyable. It should however be remembered that there are risks that the sport is associated with. Most accidents that occur do so because people are not well trained. Some people that take part in it are not well conversant with the equipment or lack understanding of the effects of deep water diving. In considering scuba diving Cozumel residents have to consider different facts.

People with sinus infection, breathing problems or any other significant illness should postpone the undersea venture until they feel more sea worthy. For people with sinus problems, even depths of 20 or 30 feet will create considerable pressure in the ears to create discomfort. You should not risk going for the excursion when not healthy. You should also be comfortable in wide and open water bodies. It is mandatory that you know how to swim. People who tend toward sea sickness should start taking sickness pills before getting on the boat.

For conservation purposes, one should not hold their breath. This will only increase the consumption of oxygen. Divers should breathe slowly and deeply using the diaphragm. The lungs should be completely filled and exhalation done slowly. This will allow more exchange of gases within the lungs and thus more oxygen saving. In order to reduce exertion and limit use of oxygen, divers should move slowly and gently.

When kicking the fins, it should be done slowly and kicks kept within the slipstream so that the effects of drag are reduced. Movements of the arms should be minimized. People are warned against attempting to dive when they are under the influence of drugs because it is very risky. The instructions of the instructor should be keenly followed. When on the surface of the water, drinking fluids will help to keep you hydrated.

There are various tips that help in oxygen conservation and to extend the time spent in the water. Divers with no much experience burn their air supply really fast. By diving as soon as possible, this problem will be sorted. By diving more, the body gets accustomed to the idea and one breathes less.

It is advisable to stay shallow. If one swims deeper, more air will be taken from the lungs. The best way to avoid excessive consumption of air is to avoid getting deeper than is necessary. Transition over uninteresting sand flats should be done at 15 feet and not 40. This saves air.

Prior to buying diving equipment, you should get certification from reputable agencies. The training is supposed to be done by people who are qualified and not friends or relatives. Instructors are people who are undergone specialized training and acquired the right skills.

As a safety measure, one should never go diving alone. This is irrespective of how experienced they are. It is always important to go with one or more people who are more experienced. In so doing, you will be safe in the event of any eventualities.
