There are many people that simply can't wait for their vacation to start so that they can get out into nature. The Shaver Lake camping grounds in Fresno County in California is a place that offers nature in abundance. It is a manmade lake and has a melancholy logging theme as the land was considerably logged while been constructed.
The majority of the water is used to supply the hydroelectric plants where they provide power to Los Angeles. The Big Creek Project generates close to four billion kilowatt hours per year and it also helps with the irrigation and flood controls for the large and flat valleys. These can stretch about four hundred and fifty miles wide. The river system has a nickname of "the hardest working water in the world" as there is a vertical drop of just less than two thousand meters.
Unlike many other camping places they do offer camp sites with electricity as well as internet and cable television. There is a picnic area but at the moment is in the process of getting revamped so will remain closed until construction ends. There is however other sites that one can stop at along Dinkey Creek that are just as quiet and restful.
They have enough camp sites for two hundred and fifty two visitors with clean restrooms, stores as well as a Laundromat and fish cleaning stations. Some sites can accommodate up to three tents with room for pop up trailers. Each site has a cook centre and hose bib. Many have a view of the water and some are even on the reservoir itself.
Fresno County was first discovered by the Spaniards and in 1846 became a part of the United States of America. This was because of the Mexican War as a result of a border dispute between Mexico and Texas. There were more than seven different battles but the most well known one was The Alamo. The American Army won many and in 1848 it ended with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. Mexico then sold off more than half of their land to the United States.
The Pacific Crest hiking trail is truly breathtaking. It is not for the unfit as it is about four thousand kilometers long over rocky terrain. Many even use this trail for horse riding. The route goes through seven national parks as well as twenty five national forests which leave many awestruck at its beauty. There is also a bicycle route that runs parallel to the hiking trail and these come together about twenty seven times along the route.
Many prefer to stay in cabins instead of camping and there are a variety of different places where one can spend a few days. There are hotels as well as log cabins to choose from. There are a few that are only five minutes drive from the lake. Many can sleep multiple guests at a time.
At the camping grounds, there is a tents only area where one can either be on the water front or inland. Dogs are welcome as long as they are on a leash at all times. There is also a clean bathhouse with coin operated showers, which you can also make use of.
