Safety Tips On Hailing A Cab

By Kate McMahon

To persons who always want to seek out an adventure, traveling without a buddy will sometimes happen since there might not be someone who will be available. When visiting a place, unfavorable circumstances might arise in the streets. For this reason, Toronto cab riders are often reminded of some warnings for their safety.

Taxis which are legitimate and authorized to drive for passengers are often found in taxi stands which is why finding one is a safe way to hail one. These stands are often situated in the usual streets and can be easily located. Their taxis are following the state regulations set for them and their drivers also have the needed license.

Upon waiting for an available taxi in a stand, notice the color, logos or the type of the vehicles because these will signs to discriminate between a probably fake one. Reputable companies must be familiarized and their hotline must be kept for times of emergency. Criminals often use fake taxicabs as their means of perpetuating their crimes.

Another thing that you have to remember is that passengers are often required to pay a flat rate which is usually inflated when hailing near landmarks or tourist spots. This is also the usual case in arrival areas of airports where the fees are commonly ten time higher than normal. Walking a few blocks from these zones will not hurt.

Before coming inside the taxi, never forget to check for the meter and the radio inside as the legitimate ones never lose track of these. Do not hesitate to wave it if these two are lacking since the service has not yet been engaged. Sometimes, some do not really need meters but it would be impossible for one without a radio because drivers need to be communicating with a base.

Having a general knowledge at the least of the address will help one in recognizing when a trouble would come. Get out of the taxi at the most possible time is being smart when a feeling of safety is already lost. Tracking down the path of the vehicle is also possible with a GPS enabled phone.

Keep bags and other precious things within reach so as they could be grabbed easily whenever a situation will happen. If possible, choose one with an older driver as this would be a safer choice. The reason behind this is that in case they are still thinking of doing bad, at last they have less physical capacity than the young ones.

Chat with the taxi driver if possible in order to calm down fears as well as anxiety. By doing this, his mood could also be monitored through observing his voice tone and know if there are irregularities at an early time. Keep the door handle within reach in case the option is to get out in a hurry.

In Toronto cab operators remind their passengers that taxi sharing is sometime a bad idea. Some criminals use this scheme as a scam in order to do their crimes or smuggling of their contraband. In cases such as these, knowing some contact persons for safety would come in handy.
