Las Vegas Grand Canyon Airplane Tours For Valentine's Day Travelers

By Kate Reingold

Are you planning on visiting the Grand Canyon this Valentine's Day? You can take an airplane tour that departs from Vegas, which will get you to the Canyon in under an hour and provide you with amazing scenic views. You will have more time to explore and take in the sights. If this sounds like fun, be sure to book your tour as soon as possible because Valentine's Day is a busy time for tours at the Canyon.

Airplane tours out of Vegas fly to the South Rim or the West Rim. The West Rim is 30 minutes away by plane, whereas the South Rim is a one hour flight. However, your flight time isn't wasted as you'll get to see a lot of interesting things along the way, such as Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam.

West Rim

There are basic flyover tours that go to the West Rim, but I highly recommend taking a landing tour. Landing tours allow for the best experience, and you can even add on a helicopter tour that goes to the bottom of the Canyon.

This landing helicopter tour is awesome, because you will be able to enjoy a Champagne picnic at the bottom. There's also the option to take a Colorado boat ride. At the top of the Canyon, there's the famous Skywalk, a glass platform that extends 70ft over the Canyon edge. Of course there are plenty of walking tracks available, so if you love some light to moderate hiking, you will love the West Rim.

Airplane tours are a great option if you find helicopter tours too expensive. In fact, airplane tickets are usually up to $100 per person cheaper than helicopter rides. The reason for this price difference is that helicopters only hold 6 people and airplanes hold 19 people. Moreover, if a helicopter tour is sold out, there's a strong probability there are seats on the plane.

Touring The South Rim By Airplane

Airplanes fly directly to Tusayan in Arizona, which is the gateway of the South Rim. Once you're at the airport there, you can transfer to a helicopter for a tour or take a bus tour. If you're sticking to a tight budget, you can complete the South Rim flyover in the airplane and then head back to Vegas.

(For those coming up from Sedona or Phoenix, you can choose between a 30/50-minute helicopter ride and a 50-minute airplane tour. I recommend the longer flights because once you do them you'll have seen up to 75 percent of the Park.)

You can even upgrade your South Rim experience to include a ground tour. If your tour includes a ground upgrade, once you land at the airport in Tusayan, you'll transfer to a bus, and ride through the park on a tour that lasts 2.5 hours and takes you to all the main highlights of the South Rim. You can also book a helicopter tour or airplane tour along with the bus tour for a comprehensive look at the beauty of the South Rim.

Book Before Tickets Sell Out

As noted earlier, I do recommend you purchase your Valentine Las Vegas Grand Canyon airplane tour in advance. Valentine's tends to be very busy. Usually, you'll want to do this after you reserve your hotel room. Try to avoid booking 24 hours prior to take off. And definitely don't book the day of the tour because you'll pay a lot more and the tour itself will most likely be sold out.

Conclusion

I hope that this information will help you to plan the perfect Valentine's Day holiday. An air tour will create memories you and your loved one will never forget. There are several tour options and upgrades to consider so you can create a tour you'll love and you can afford whether you go to the South Rim or the West Rim. Start planning your tour now, so you'll have an exciting Valentine's Day filled with adventure and natural beauty.
