You know the old chestnut, "They do it big in Texas"? Well, nothing can be truer about Texans when it comes to their quest for fun and adventure. That's the reason why the city of Houston is bursting at the appears with a bounty of locations for fun, adventure and entertainment.

Kemah Boardwalk

The Kemah Boardwalk is amongst the most family-friendly amusement parks in Houston. Found just 20 minutes from central, this waterfront amusement park features something for each age including restaurants, interesting stores, festivals, shows, and old fashioned beach trattorias. Perhaps the most important draw is Kemah's famous wooden roller-coaster, the Boardwalk Bullet. Over 42 compact twist and turns provide a ride of a lifetime certain to entertain even the most keen thrill hunters.

Six Flags Splashtown

The name Six Flags is linked with fun. This amusement park in Houston is found just 30 miles from the city center and is a brilliant way to beat the Texas heat. Rated by visitors as the best of Houston water parks, Splash Town offers a great number of slides and pools. For adrenaline junkies there's Splash Town's signature rides including the Tornado, where riders swirl down a 132 foot tunnel into a 5,000 gallon funnel of water. One things for sure, out of all the Houston water parks, this one will live up to that ol ' Texas saying, "Get down and cool in the seat of your saddle!"

Tiki Lake

One of Houston's most unique fun spots, Tiki Lake, located in the southern part of Houston, features 40 acres of waterfront encircled by a sandy shoreline and gardens. Here, families can spend the day learning to scuba dive or kayak, or enjoy fishing from the docks. The beach area provides the perfect spot for a picnic or BBQ. This water fun-spot is an excellent spot to visit for a scuba lesson or a peaceful afternoon of lounging on the beach.

Scream World

Voted one of the top 13 Haunts in The USA by MSNBC, Scream World puts a blood-curdling spin on the term theme park. This theme park in Houston is open yearly from Sep through Halloween and offers visitors several haunted houses and outdoor mazes to enjoy . Actors at this top-rated theme park in Houston deliver a story-line sure to frighten the pants off even the most hard-core horror lover. Located north of the city off the Sam Houston Parkway.

Houston County Fair

The Houston County Fair is a much loved annual event that brings families and friends together to enjoy the best of Houston's fine city spirit. Loaded with great things to do, the Houston Fair features carnival rides, food booths, mid-way games, farm animal exhibits, and bandstand events like the Battle of the Bands and a tractor pull. Perhaps one of the primary attractions nonetheless , is the Houston County Fair Rodeo which displays top rodeo stars from the Houston area.
