Dominican Republic Airport Transfers Make Your Holiday A Breeze

By Catalina Nielsen

There is nothing like a holiday in the Caribbean to recharge your batteries, work on your suntan and simply relax. If you want to add some spice to your break, you may want to opt for one of the region's Spanish-speaking countries. Dominican Republic airport transfers can be your passport to sun, sea, sand, Latin flavor and a fiesta like no other.

The Dominican Republic is one of the largest Caribbean nations. It covers the eastern part of Hispaniola, a large island that it shares with Haiti. Puerto Rico and other popular holiday destinations like Martinique, St Lucia and the Virgin Islands lie to the east and south-east of Hispaniola while Cuba and Jamaica lie to the north-west and the west, respectively.

An extremely popular attraction in the Dominican Republic is Punta Cana, a world-famous seaside resort. This is just one of the beach destinations the nation with its tropical climate has to offer. You'll find everything from bustling tourist beaches to more secluded coves and fantastic dive spots and there is almost no beach that isn't a little slice of paradise.

The Dominican Republic is not only about sun, sand and ocean, however. It's a prime eco-tourism and adventure destination with great biodiversity. The mountainous interior with Pico Duarte, the highest peak in the Caribbean, is great for trekking and mountain climbing. Several rivers offer rafting opportunities and the valleys and plains are perfect for horseback adventures or Jeep safaris. One of the best places to go for wildlife spotting is Lago Enriquillo, which is a salty lake far below sea level and the lowest location in the Caribbean.

Party animals will find plenty to do in the Dominican Republic too. This is the nation that gave the world merengue music and it will be impossible to resist the temptation to put on your dancing shoes and enjoy a night out. If you're tired of shaking your body to the sultry Latin rhythms, you may want to visit a casino and act the high roller.

If you're a sporty type, you'll find plenty to do on your holiday. The world-class golf courses attract players from all over the world. Baseball is huge here too and you can't go wrong catching a game between major-league teams. Culture and history lovers will probably prefer exploring the museums and historical sights, however.

There are many airports in the country, seven of which receive international carriers. Punta Cana's airport is by far the busiest but the one near Santo Domingo, the country's capital, also sees much traffic. It's possible to fly direct from several US and European destinations, as well as from other Caribbean and Latin American nations.

Local hotels don't usually have their own shuttle services to and from the airports. To get to your accommodation once your flight has landed, you can get a taxi outside the arrivals hall. An easier and often much more economical option, however, is to go online before your flight and book with one of the companies that offer Dominican Republic airport transfers.
