Our Notable Getaway At Grand Cayman Island

By Jacin Gonzales

Islands in the Caribbean are a beautiful lot. People telling me that sparked my interest in travelling to the Caribbean. When I got married, we spent our honeymoon in Madrid. Now that our fifth year anniversary is fast approaching, I want to spend it in the Caribbean region. I then consulted with my husband if he was amenable to the idea. He readily agreed to my idea as he was thinking of the Caribbeans like I was. I wanted to find out which areas in the Caribbean he had set his sights on. She said that she wanted to visit the Cayman Islands.

Stingray City was our target when we get to the Grand Cayman. Because we failed to make prior reservations, we had to look for a local to guide us where we can find the stingrays. He pointed us to the right direction and soon many people were all around us vying for our attention. My wife signalled me that I should conduct the interview and negotiation. After about an hour of waiting, we joined a group of tourists to ride a van. Then we boarded a very small boat. Getting on the boat scared me as it was pretty old and in bad shape. My wife was quite afraid to board the boat.

One of many ladies in the boat spoke up. She said that she has been back to the islands and had used the same guides in going to Stingray City. She also stated that she had boarded the same boat before and the journey was just fine. My wife's fear was assuaged by the woman's accounts. She introduced herself as Susan and she talked to us. She even told us that we were quite fortunate to get the two young men as guides. Susan said that these young men will help us in the water. And they will hold the stingray so that we will be able to interact with them. All of us paid attention to her as told us some of her experiences. And then when we were in the water with the stingrays, my wife and I had so much fun. And we like the scenery and the beach. I was quite blown away to hear the laughter of my wife as she fed them. I was so happy checking out my beautiful laughing wife.

I asked her if she wanted to retire for the day or she still wanted to go sightseeing. She said that she's already tired but she still planned to see the sights of the island. So we visited Cayman Turtle Farm: Island Wildlife Encounter. My wife and I had a magnificent time with the turtles. However, there were some species that we were not permitted to touch because the turtles were snappy. My wife and I had a good time picking up a turtle for our photos. And we were highly entertained by Smiley the Crocodile.

We also had fun looking at sharks and other predators in their very big aquarium. My wife was also very pleased because she saw a bird flying very near a lady tourist. Then a guide told her to hold out her hand and stand still. Not long after that, a beautiful bird hovered near her hand and then ended up on her palm. Her smile reached her eyes. When the bird flew away, she looked at me in amazement and awe. She told me that her experiences on this island were precious. And the best part was we were together in this island of paradise.
