Spectacular Reasons to Call Tampa Florida Home

By Jony Mozen

Most people don't move to a new area because it has beautiful beaches, attractive golf courses, great fishing, wonderful parks, fine restaurants, extensive shopping, good schools, or interesting attractions - unless your employment is connected to those categories - or you're planning your retirement. There are many reasons to move to a new home or a new state. For growing families it may mean a larger house; for downsizing families it may mean a smaller home; for retirees it may be as simple as moving to a warmer climate. For some lucky families and retirees, moving to a new home may include the benefits mentioned above, plus a warm and wonderful climate. The joys of living in the Tampa area are available to everyone and the price of a large, luxurious home is easily affordable for most.

Tampa has ideal weather. The sun is always shining. Tampa Bay averages 27 more clear days per year than Miami and the area holds the record for most consecutive days of sunshine. The average annual temperature is about 73 degrees with winter lows above 60 and summer highs below 85. November usually gets the least amount of rain and August gets the most. Tampa Bay's weather is "just right." It's not too hot and not too cold. You can dress very comfortably, with light casual clothes to match the weather of each season. Yes, there are seasons, just not as extreme as the rest of the country. Tampa Bay is about as far north as most palm tress can grow, yet far enough south where you can swim and play golf all year round.

The Ybor of today is now known for being a district of nightclubs, dining, shopping, and great people watching. Founding family descendants still run The Columbia Restaurant, Florida's oldest restaurant. It is believed to be the largest Spanish restaurant in the world. Ybor City is one of three historic Landmark Districts in the state of Florida. Nearby St. Petersburg attracts visitors to the Salvador Dali Museum, Fort De Soto Park, and the St. Petersburg Pier. Along with beautiful beaches, the city is known for its warm weather and breezes from Tampa Bay.

Many of Tampa's cultural centers are clustered downtown along the Hillsborough River in Downtown Tampa. Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Tampa Museum of Art, Henry B. Plant Museum, Tampa Bay History Center and many displays of public art can be found. The historic electric streetcar and the in-town trolleys are a fun and easy way to navigate the downtown/convention center core. Stroll along park-like Bayshore Boulevard for a great panoramic view of downtown Tampa. Tampa is also noted for exciting attractions such as the Florida Aquarium, Lowry Park Zoo and Busch Gardens theme park.

On the serious side, if you want the best education for yourself, your kids or grandchildren come to Tampa! The University of South Florida (USF) is one of the state's three flagship universities, and is a public Research University with its main campus located in North Tampa. USF is classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a Very High Research institution. USF is also one of the nation's top centers for the advancement in research of treatments for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and Huntington's diseases. The University of Tampa (UT) is a private, co-educational university that offers over 100 undergraduate degree options, along with Master's degree programs in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Education, Marketing, Innovation Management, and Nursing. The Princeton Review has added UT's John H. Sykes College of Business to its annual best business schools guide. Hillsborough Community College (HCC) is a 2-year community college with six campuses located throughout the county.

If you still need more reasons to move to Tampa, consider that the cost of living in Florida is quite reasonable compared to other major states in the U.S., sales taxes are lower than most states, and there is no state income tax. Compare the benefits of living in Florida with any other state and you'll see why Florida is the best choice. There are many homes at surprisingly low prices waiting for owners, waterfront homes included, and Florida is an asset protection state, which is why so many business-minded people make Florida their primary residence. Asset protection means you cannot have your home taken away from you even if you file for bankruptcy. Florida is a major retirement area, which means some of the best doctors and medical centers in the nation are here. The health benefits of living in Florida are countless, and warm temperatures and a relaxed lifestyle promote healthy living. It's wonderful to be able to get out and walk every day, or ride a bike, or play tennis, or just go shopping at the outlet stores. Don't forget to mark your calendars for these annual festivals: the Gasparilla Pirate Fest in January, The Florida State Fair in February, the Florida Strawberry Festival in March, the Ruskin Tomato & Heritage Festival in May, and the Ruskin Seafood Fest in November. For those who want easy living, Florida is a natural destination. Come enjoy the sun in the Sunshine State!
