Travel To Iceland For An Unforgettable Experience

By Cathy Mercer

While the majority of people looking to vacation somewhere are mostly looking for beach vacations, others want something more. The truth is that there is so much beauty in the world, it shouldn't only be about the beach. It's about culture and the beauty in nature, traditions, and the like. That's why travel to Iceland will be an unforgettable experience.

It begins with its actual location, being so close to the Arctic. In fact, this island country with Nordic ways actually fits right where the Arctic meets the Atlantic Ocean. It's a sparsely populated country with most of the residents living either in the southwestern region or in the capital city. What's fascinating about it is that the country itself is volcanically active.

Don't be fooled by its location with regards to its climate. In fact, thanks to the Gulf Stream, it has a temperate climate with temperatures very close to the freezing point and rarely colder. It has a rich history that began in 874 AD, and it has seen good and bad days. Just recently, it survived an economic crisis, but it is now one of the most prosperous countries in the world.

Thankfully, for anyone wanting to visit Iceland, English, though not an official language, is widely spoken and understood by all its citizens. So, there isn't much stress in trying to communicate with the natives. This also helps visitors get a better understanding of the people and the place, with all its raw beauty and differences.

Enjoying this country is not difficult, because it has such different landscapes than most of us are familiar with. Take for example the inner plateau which is rich with mountains and glaciers and lava fields. With the Greenland being so close, oftentimes polar bears come over to visit. Of course, with the cold, it's unlikely for most vacationers to swim in the sea, but they can enjoy swimming elsewhere.

In fact, the people of this wonderful nation have come up with incredible solutions including 170 geothermal outdoor swimming pools. The water is the perfect temperature so people can enjoy a nice swim. Also, when visiting, make sure the glacier lagoon is on the list, as well as possibly riding on Icelandic horses.

Visiting this fascinating island country is about experiencing something different than what regular vacations are about. It is about seeing a place that is so different, and breathtaking. It's about experiencing its geysers, which is what it is known for. It is these geysers that provide all the hot water and electricity its citizens require.

Its location also provides for wonderful points in which to enjoy some whale watching. Scuba diving is also very popular, providing for incredible underwater sites that are not to be missed. Enjoy a mountain bike ride or a hike in some of the roughest and most pristine terrains ever imaginable. Travel to Iceland may be all about sightseeing for some. For others, it means skiing some of the most wonderful mountains or enjoying it and adventurous river rafting experience.
