Is There A Female Midlife Crisis

By Tanisha Berg

Women are as likely as men to experience midlife crisis. When men get to certain age and realize that life is passing them by, they sometimes want to compensate for all that lost years. Women react differently. All their lives they were mostly preoccupied with needs of others. When they finally have enough time for themselves, they can go through female midlife crisis.

Women often simply don't have enough time to spend taking care of their own needs. When they come to certain ages, sometimes they suddenly realize that they were wives and mothers only, and that they never had a chance to do something different. If being wife and mother is all that you are, what happens when children go away.

Working women usually have fewer problems with this type of crisis. They are more than just wives and mothers, they earn their money and they have their own careers. This is really important, even if you don't have any especially interesting job. Maybe your life was harder, but this transition period will probably be easier for you.

Unemployed mothers take these things harder. They get helpless once their homes are empty, without all those children to look after. Everything is simply too quiet. If husband is still working, he has entire other life, out of home. These women need to find some new interests, and to get out of their houses at last.

Another problem related to this period of life is accepting physical changes of your face and body. You can still be really attractive, but the fact is that middle aged woman won't stop the traffic. Yesterday you were still young and sexy, and today people see someone else. And you still feel so young inside.

Once you realize that people perceive you as a middle-aged woman, all those things you were putting aside for so long suddenly appear. There is no much time to do these things now, and for some is simply too late. Maybe now you have enough time and will to lose those ten pounds and fit in that sexy dress, but who cares.

You can find a job, now when you have time to make a career. The problem is that they hire young people. In fact, there are only few places where they are willing to hire someone with almost no experience, and with more than forty years of age. If you don't have very good connections, this could be hard to accomplish.

Once you realize that, you will be shocked, it is perfectly normal reaction. When you feel depressed or angry, it is perfectly normal, too. If you are going through your menopause at the time, it will be even harder. Your body is changing, your hormones are wild and the whole world is against you.

After all that, it would be strange if you didn't get into a midlife crisis. But, things aren't so black. You are perfectly capable to overcome all this. You are beautiful, confident, capable woman with so much to offer. You just need to find something that will occupy you, and you have to start over. It is never too late.
