A Grand Turk Taxi To Get Around On The Island

By Liliana Mills

Transportation once you reach your destination is an important part of vacation planning. A Grand Turk taxi is a great way to get around the island whether you are seeing sites or heading out for a night on the town. Knowing how you will navigate will make your time on vacation more enjoyable and less stressful.

The Turks and Caicos is the location of Grand Turk Island. It is the biggest and has the second largest population of over 3700. The JAGS McCartney International Airport is the first stop for many arriving from around the globe. The Cruise Ship Center there has a pier measuring 3000 feet and welcome and recreation centers. The center features fun for almost anyone and is open twelve months a year.

Grand Turks Island has a few distinctions of which they are very proud and are of interest to tourists. It was the location of the first landfall made by Christopher Columbus when he was making his journey for the New World in 1492. It was also the place where John Glenn's Friendship 7 Mercury spacecraft landed. A replica is available for viewing by visitors.

Diving is a very popular attraction. Anyone from a beginner snorkeler to an experienced scuba diver can be accommodated and can have a great dive experience. On display is a government protected coral reef. It is close to shore and drops to 8000 feet. Even those who do not want to leave the shore can watch the passing of humpback whales during the right season.

Cockburn Town is the capital as well as the historical and cultural center. It is lined with Bermudan architecture from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Most buildings including offices, homes, churches and libraries reflect this architectural style.

History abounds on the island. The National Museum is a must see for these folks. There they can learn about such events as the Molasses Reef Wreck, the oldest shipwreck of its type known in the Western Hemisphere. This wreck dates back to 1505. Buffs can also plan to visit the Lighthouse as well as Fire hill and Hawks Nest Anchorage. There is much to enjoy and much to learn.

Perhaps the most popular excursion is to Gibbs Cay. This uninhabited island features beautiful white sand and lots of adventure. Snorkelers swim amidst colorful reef fish. You can learn to clean a conch and then eat some of the local delicacy. Swimming with stingrays is another way to experience the magic of a Grand Turks vacation. Crew members instruct and assist with this adventure to assure safety and enjoyment. As with the rest of Grand Turk, there is plenty of beach on which to relax and enjoy.

A Grand Turk taxi can take you wherever you need to go to have the vacation of your dreams. Taxis can be commissioned to and from virtually any location on the island. Drivers are by and large friendly and willing to help with any questions about your home away form home.
