Favorite Romantic Vacations: Paso Robles Wineries

By Chris Werner

Off of Hwy 101 and not far from the Hears Castles sits a small winery town called Paso Robles. Paso Robles boasts over 200 wineries and these are some of my favorite wineries.

Found in the western part of Paso Robles, Adelaida Cellars Inc spans across the 145 acres that includes five distinctly specialty vineyards that has consistently been a favorite wine places in California. With the help of the amazing climate provided by the Pacific Ocean, slopes and chalk rock limestones, Adelaida has progressed amazingly. In 2010, it has receive acclaim for its use of sustainable energy and resources in wine production.

Hoffman Mountain Ranch is one of their more distinguished vineyards of Adelaida Cellars in Paso Robles. With the use of the best locally grown grapes in cultivating their wine, in effect, the area has prospered significantly in terms of the wine industry. This winery can be traced all the way back to 1964 and has now sealed their expertise in Burgundian varieties. Even though their stocks are limited, their Pinot Noir is still one of the best sellers of Adelaida Cellars Inc.

Names after Elizabeth Van Steenwyk's grandmother, Anna's Estate Vineyard produces a unique spin on their wine varietal that have people coming back for more. It depends on clone and rootstock to develop this distinct flavor in their wines. Each and every wine blend, most especially their Syrah, possess this earthy flavor tinged with milk chocolate taste. Due to this, Anna's Estate Vineyard has experienced success in tasting rooms.

Among all the Adelaida wineries, Michael's Estate Vineyard is the only one that works with dry farm land. With its numerous different slopes and hills, it provide great source of different flavors in which the estate easily take advantage to. Among their high-quality wine varietals, their Zinfadels is truly their main focus and has ever since been revered by their guests.

Fairly young compared to the vineyards nearby, Viking Estate Vineyard started their wine factory in 2007 on an edge of a ravine. Although its area proves for others to be quite difficult to grow grapes in, the vineyard chose to focus all their energy to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Syrah. They have maintained the best-tasting varieties in their winery, most especially the Cabernet Sauvignon.

Specializing in single-grape wine varietals, Bobcat Crossing Estate Vineyard is worth a visit. They are distinguished for their refined and smooth wines, most especially Touriga Nacional, Tinto Cao and Souzoa, and Muscat Blanc. It is amazing how their use of sandy loam soil has caused abundant growth of Portuguese crops. This method has injected a fruity and acidic flavor to their wines, most especially Touriga Nacional, that pegged them as one of the most unique wineries in the area. Propelled by Don Van Steenwyk, Bobcat Crossing Estate Vineyard is now highly regarded in the wine industry.
